Youth gone wild

Tuska open air

Tuska open air is the biggest metal music festival in the Nordic countries, held in Suvilahti, Helsinki. Tuska is an three day festival dedicated only to metal music and related styles of music and it was first held back in 1998, at club Tavastia and back then it was only two days long. In -99 and 2000 it was held at VR magazines. In -01 Tuska was moved to the park Kaisaniemi and it was changed to an three day festival. From -03 there has been three stages. Nowadays there are four stages. In -07 Tuska was held the tenth time and nowadays it’s the largest nordic metal festival. From Kaisaniemi, they moved Tuska to Suvilahti’s industrial area, where they intend to keep it.

There are lots of people every year in Tuska, last year there were 28 000 visitors and a lot of them were young people. You can see young metalheads everywhere around Tuska. Even I am going there with my friends this year.

One place I will remember all my life

There are many places that I will remember all my life, but the first one I could think of, is the huge oak tree that grows behind the tower of blocks we used to live in.  Trough the eyes of a child the elderly tree seemed to be at least thousand feet tall and thirty-three feet round.

I can always remember the noise of warm summer breeze blowing trough the branches and swaying the tree, the touch of rough, old bark under my hands, the fresh smell of leaves on a warm summer day with no worries.

As years passed and I grew older, I started to climb on that tree less and less by every passing year. But now, that it has been years since I’ve climbed to the top of that tree, I still remember that tree and the days I spent hanging on its wonderful branches.  I can always sink into my memories of those days and it gives me a warm and happy feeling to this cold Finnish fall.

My English Memoir

The first encounters with English I remember is our old Sega and watching cartoons on TV. I used to play games like Sonic and many others and learned what to push so I could play the game. But I think that the real thing that made me want to learn English was music. As a youngster I used to listen to music all day long on this huge portable player I had and, of course, thought that I could sing it just like on the cd  (I have probably sounded pretty funny)

I didn’t shine with my English in the first three years I had it, but after that I learned more and more everyday. I used English while hanging out with my friends, playing games, surfing the internet, watching cartoons and, of course, while listening to music. I almost drove my step dad mad, because I asked him almost every word that I did not understand and I think I didn’t listen when he said “not now.”

The funniest thing is, I never had to study English like everybody had to, I just watched cartoons, played games, etc. and learned without even noticing it.

Learning English is and will be important to me, because I ‘ll need it in my work. I’d like to work abroad, because I’ll get a better job abroad.  I’ll need English to communicate with other people, but you never know what the future holds and what will be.
